The Thunder Bay region has a substantial opportunity to attract investment in the bioeconomy due to an underutilized supply of poplar and birch. Lack of access to existing forest inventory data is a roadblock to investors, and limits the development of new bioeconomy innovations across the province. With support from CRIBE, our partner Silvacom has conducted a study investigating the potential of this opportunity.
The study provides a comprehensive analysis of over 4 million hectares of productive Crown forest in the Thunder Bay region, quantifying available hardwood fibre, evaluating operational scenarios, and assessing economic viability.
